Solar Renewable Energy Certificates, or SRECs, are a critical policy and market mechanism accelerating the clean energy transition. They align incentives across homeowners, businesses, utilities, and governments—making solar adoption more accessible, financeable, and scalable across the region.
We’re building a product- and systems-driven organization that makes SRECs simple, reliable, and transparent for solar owners and partners. Through robust back-end systems, thoughtful automation, and a market-aware platform, we aim to modernize SREC infrastructure and help accelerate the transition to clean energy at scale.
About the role
This role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the backend systems that power RECmint’s SREC aggregation platform. Candidates should expect to spend approximately 75% of their time designing, writing and testing Clojure code.
You will:
Conceive, develop and implement new backend capabilities and services.
Maintain and improve existing Clojure software.
Clearly communicate with management and colleagues on a regular basis.
Test and maintain software products to ensure strong functionality and optimization.
Surface and manage technical debt.
Collaborate with external teams as needed for technical implementations
Lead and mentor junior software developers.
We’re looking for someone who:
Has strong experience building web services in Clojure
Has excellent coding skills and appreciation for functional patterns, state management and API design
Works well independently while maintaining transparency
Is comfortable with changing priorities in a growing company
Cares about building reliable systems that support real-world operations
Is motivated by RECmint’s mission to accelerate the clean energy transition
This role will report to Chris Hapgood, Director of Software Engineering.

Location & Hybrid Work
RECmint is part of the Sun Tribe Group family of companies. Our offices are in Charlottesville, VA on the historic downtown mall, though our engineering team is distributed across the US and abroad.
Remote team members are expected in-office for about two weeks per year.

Compensation & Application
This is a full-time role with a pay range of $150,000 -185,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
